Saint John Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, announced recently that it is nationally recognized in pulmonary and critical care service lines and received two Five-Star ratings according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Prime Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading health systems with 45 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations in 14 states. Prime’s hospitals received more than 200 accolades from Healthgrades for the 2024 award season.

“Healthgrades congratulates Saint John Hospital for being a national leader and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “As health systems nationwide endeavor to elevate their quality of care, these elite facilities provide a roadmap for success. We commend Saint John for their dedication to excellence in patient care.”

The service lines recognized at Saint John Hospital include:

Pulmonary Care:

  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia in 2024

Critical Care:

  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis – 7 Years in a Row (2018-2024)

“These designations reflect our commitment at Saint John to provide high-quality specialty care for our community,” said Billie Leonard, DNP, MSN, RN, Saint John Hospital Chief Nursing Officer/Administrator. “I am very proud to be part of this team and look forward to a bright future for healthcare in Leavenworth County.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most–patient outcomes–Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades gives consumers the information they need to find a hospital that excels in providing the care they need. And, by shining a light on strengths and weaknesses, Healthgrades ratings help direct hospitals to opportunities for clinical improvement.  The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed that the variation in performance between five-star and one-star hospitals continues to widen, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020 through 2022, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals, on average, 215,667 lives could potentially have been saved, and 149,521 patients could have avoided potential complications.*
