In early January, 2015, Saint John Hospital will be receiving a new weapon in the fight against breast cancer, digital mammography. The new digital mammography equipment is part of an initiative from the hospital designed to meet women’s health care needs in the Leavenworth community.
It will include a renovated area on the first floor of the Saint John Pavilion featuring digital mammography, breast ultrasound and bone density screening. The new digital mammography equipment will be installed and operational near the end of 2014 and has the capacity to be upgraded to 3-D mammography.
Digital mammography equipment is particularly effective for performing exams in:
- Women under age 50.
- Women with dense breast tissue.
- Women who are pre- or peri-menopausal.
