Saint John Hospital is proud to honor its extraordinary nurses with the DAISY Award. The hospital’s recent DAISY Award winner is Rachel Beckley, RN., staff nurse, Emergency Department.

Rachel was selected from a field of registered nurses nominated by patients, families, co-workers, physicians, and volunteers at the hospital. She received a certificate commending her for her compassion, commitment, competence.

Chief Nursing Officer/Administrator, Billie Leonard, DNP, MSN, RN, said, “We are so proud of Rachel and the excellent care she provides patients at Saint John Hospital.”

Being a nurse for more than 32 years, Rachel has taken care of a lot of patients in Leavenworth. It’s no surprise that she was chosen as the recent Daisy Award recipient at Saint John, as she has a mindset that she is here to help her patients feel well.

“I simply like to make people feel better,” Rachel says. “It’s nice to be able to assure our patients that they are going to be ok.”

She adds, “It’s so cool I get to take care of people at the bedside, explain what is being done to help them recover.”

Her nursing background includes 12 years as a Medical Surgical Nurse and 20 years working as a nurse in Emergency Care.

Having worked in Leavenworth for many years, she says it’s an honor to care for area residents. She originally started at Cushing Hospital and joined Saint John in 2020. “During my time here in Leavenworth, I have cared for four generations of patients. It’s wonderful to connect with them and ask about their loved ones whom I’ve also cared for,” she said.

This year there were 23 nominations for the prestigious Daisy Award this spring. Plans are to offer it twice a year moving forward.
